Berkhamsted Win Inaugural Girls U14 Competition

Mark Williams reports:

09/02/18: An excellent entry of 36 pairs from 7 schools meant that the inaugural Girls’ U14 competition was a thoroughly worthwhile exercise. Schools entering were Ipswich (11 pairs), Holyport (7), Highgate (6), Berkhamsted (5), Shrewsbury (5), Mill Hill (1) and Cranleigh (1). The standard at the top end was encouragingly high, especially from the Shrewsbury girls who have only been playing for a term.

New North Faces As Cooley & Dunbar Regain Title

05/02/18: The top line might have been a familiar one, with Tom Dunbar & Seb Cooley winning their seventh title, but the 2018 Northern tournament was notable for the appearance of some new names in the latter stages, with a first major final for Jonny Ho & Riki Houlden and a weekend enjoyed by 64 pairs in total.

Cooley Banks Ipswich Tournament

09/01/18: The Fives players of Ipswich celebrated the New Year in the style to which they have become accustomed over the years with the annual running of the Graves Cup, won this year by guest player Seb Cooley and young Ipswich schoolboy Harry Banks, neither of whom actually played in the qualifying rounds but who nevertheless ended up winning the trophy, in a move worthy of John Caudle himself.

01/02/18: It was extremely disappointing that the weather conspired to force us to cancel the first attempt at a girls festival this year. Faye Kerr had managed to enthuse eight schools to bring forty five pairs to what would have been easily the largest such gathering to date.

20/12/17: Congratulations to James Fredenham who won Aldenham’s Fancy Dress Fives last night. His ‘Fake Sheikh’ outfit which included a shoe polish goatee stole the show. The theme was ‘Any nationality but your own.’

Under 21s 2018: Dark Blue Domination

29/01/18: Oxford University EFC followed up their pre-Christmas double at the Universities tournament with another successful day in the U21s at Eton yesterday, with Tom Kirkby & Oskar Denby and Marjolaine Briscoe & Carolina Valensise both overcoming strong Salopian opposition to win their finals.

Turnbull Trophy Falls Victim To The Weather

11/12/17: Sadly, yesterday's Turnbull Trophy at Eton had to be cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions, with many of the 30 entered pairs from 11 different schools unable to make it to the venue.
