Veterans Competitions 28th April 2013

The 2013 Veterans Tournament took place at Eton at the weekend and saw wins for Mike Hughes and Grant Williams in the open competition, Chris Davies and Chris Lloyd in the Over 50s and for Ronald Pattison and Tony Walters in the Over 60s.

Eton College Fives Team 25 hour Fives Marathon

Saturday 9th – Sunday 10th March 2013

In early February Charlie Fairbanks Smith and Tom Hearn approached myself and C.M.B.Williams with an ambitious idea to play Fives, non-stop, for 25 hours in order to raise money for some worthy charitable causes. We were only too happy to help facilitate such a commendable initiative, and so at 5.00pm on Saturday 9th March the idea became a reality as 18 Etonians along with 10 Beaks, Old Etonians and guests appeared outside court 11 to showcase the start of a marathon effort to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK and Thames Hospice care.

2013 Mixed Tournament: Cooleys win again in Mixed Match

The 2013 Mixed Tournament took place at Eton on Sunday in glorious sunshine, with a small but high quality field producing a highly entertaining day's Fives with tournament organiser Seb Cooley neatly devising a format that resulted in he and his partner - sister Charlotta - winning and retaining their title with a 2-0 win over George Campbell and Katharina Kuenburg in the final. Fittingly, the plate competition for the Dossi Dish was won by Dossi himself, with a bit of help from partner Elana Osen as they overcame Peter White and Natalie Lilienthal 2-1 in an extremely close contest.

Kinnaird Cup Final 2013: Three in a row for Dunbar and Cooley

T.Dunbar & S.Cooley beat G.Campbell & P.Dunbar 3-0 (12-5, 12-7, 12-3)

Tom Dunbar and Seb Cooley continued their three year winning streak as a pair with a third successive Kinnaird Cup final win at Eton on Sunday in a very high quality final against Peter Dunbar and George Campbell.

Aberconway Cup 2013: Williams win

This year we were without several regular pairs, all of whom promised to be back next year, the plus being that five new pairings entered for the first time. Following one of the coldest March months on record sixteen pairs arrived at Eton on a bright and warm sunny day to do battle in the 23rd championship for the Aberconway Cup.

2013 Ladies Final: Cooley and Hird triumph in five game thriller

C.Cooley & K.Hird beat D.Redmond & M.Catmull 3-2 (5-12, 12-7, 2-12, 12-4, 12-2)

The final of the 2013 Ladies Championships was won at Eton on Sunday by Charlotta Cooley and Karen Hird who came from 1-2 down to beat top seeds Dominique Redmond and Marianne Catmull in a feisty five game thriller and bring to an end Dom's remarkable eight year winning streak in this competition.

April 2013: North Oxford win Division 2

North Oxford won the Division 2 title for the second successive year last night with a nailbiting 2-1 win over a strong Westway Olavians team. The two points gained take them to a final tally of 25 for the season, half a point ahead of the Old Millhillians 2, who narrowly miss out on a remarkable first and second division double. With the match poised at 1-1 and the title in the balance, North Oxford's heroes were vice-captain Spencer Chapman and Carl Rennie, who held their nerve to come from 12-10 down to win the fourth game 13-12 and clinch the decisive point.

Marsh National Schools' Championships 2013

The 2013 Marsh Insurance National Schools' Championships took place at Shrewsbury last week and were as always a huge success.
