The early rounds were distinguished by the performance of the Old Ipswichians in beating first the Old Etonians and then the Old Cholmeleians to reach the semi-finals.

Ten teams produced a side in this year's competition, and the four seeded sides reached the semi-finals.

Twelve teams entered with the four seeds receiving a bye into the second round namely St Olave's (1), Shrewsbury (2), Harrow (3) and Eton (4).

Twelve teams entered the competition this year, and two of the four first round matches were played. Otherwise all matches were completed with full pairs.

Once again the Barber Cup was a hugely exciting and dramatic event! Full of surprises and some titanic confrontations. It is sad that some formerly mighty clubs struggled to raise sides in the early rounds.

Sadly this year the first and second rounds were marred by teams failing to produce sides. As a result the Old Salopians, seeded one, and the Old Cholmeleians, seeded two, had byes straight through to the semi-finals.
