Girls Individual Tournament

Natalie Lilienthal reports:

29/09/26: Eleven girls took to the courts at Highgate on Sunday to create the most positive and enthusiastic sporting atmosphere you could wish for as they battled it out for individual glory.

This year's players from Ipswich and Highgate engaged in a series of mix around matches playing with a different partner in each of six rounds. Star guest player Charlotta Cooley was added to the rotation to keep the third court in full swing until unfortunately Olivia had to retire injured so the playing field was adjusted to two full match courts and a top-step match court.

After six rounds the four top scorers went in to the Big Final. With a Small Final, and a Top-Step Final between Amina and Grace, all held concurrently. The final saw Ipswichians Millie and Rebecca narrowly beaten by combo pairing of Ipswich's Anastasia and Highgate's Maria 12-10 to claim the gold medals.

Bronze medals were claimed by the winners of the Small Final, Immy and Evie, in a spirited all-Highgate battle against Alexia and Tzi Ying.

It was a privilege to be part of such a joyous Fives occasion, everyone entering into the true spirit of the game, and all the players showing noticeable improvements throughout the day.

Thanks to Billy Bolton and Highgate for hosting the event, to Charlotta for running the tournament (and making up numbers!), and to all the players for their enthusiasm. The future of women's Fives is bright!
