Hughes Cup: A Maiden Success For St.Olave's
24/01/24: St.Olave's won the Hughes Cup (schools U15 three pair team competition) for the first time at Harrow on Sunday.
Six teams took part, with hosts Harrow joined by Eton, St.Olave's, Charterhouse and two Shrewsbury teams.
The tournament was played as a round robin, with each match played over two games to 12. The St.Olave's team dominated the competition from start to finish, winning comprehensively - a first victory for them in a tournament that has been going since 2017. Shrewsbury and Eton finished level in second place and Charterhouse - with just two pairs and therefore conceding third pair ech time - finished a highly creditable fourth, which included several good wins, proving that they are very much able to compete with the more established Fives schools at this level.
Sadly a lack of interest/availability meant that the Bowden Bowl - the equivalent competition for less strong teams - was not held.
