O Come, O Come To Emanuel...
Mike Till reports:
15/01/20: Last Thursday night Emanuel School Fives courts reverberated with the thwack of cork on leather and the grunts of those intrepid souls that were the pioneer players on our first club night.
We had a mixture of returning and current players and all performed to a very high standard; indeed, Fives royalty in the form of John Reynolds, commented on just how impressed he was by those on court.
We managed to fill all three courts and had a couple of spares to step in and take over when some of us began to flag. The courts played well but I think we will need to check the laws for local variations as it appears that there is no obvious upper limit to the front wall other than the rather lofty roof; suggestions are welcome.
It was an evening of great Fives, excellent camaraderie and the event was much enjoyed by everyone. The post-match debrief in the Roundhouse across the road from the school helped round off the evening in style.
My thanks, of course, to everyone in attendance, to the school for allowing us access and to the EFA for supporting this initiative.
We will continue to hold regular club nights on Thursdays between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m, so do please get in touch if you fancy playing; I can assure you that we are a very friendly and informal bunch and we would be delighted to welcome new players.
