Williams Cup 2015: Three in a Row for Eton

12/03/15: Eton claimed the Williams Cup - the three pair school competition - for the third year in row on their home courts last Sunday. The team, made up of Tom Weld, Tom Kirkby, Oliver Rowse, Barnaby Harrison, Arthur Wellesley and Jack Capstick-Dale, fittingly won the competition to mark the final year as Master-in-Charge at Eton of tournament founder Mark Williams, winning the round robin format ahead of Shrewsbury, Harrow, Highgate, Westminster, Berkhamsted and St.Olave's.

March 2014: Eton retain the Williams Cup

Mark Williams reports:

Seven schools entered the Williams Cup this year, and so it was a round-robin event with each pair playing 2 games up to 9 in each match. This format meant that in each game the Fives was intense from the start, and lead to some exciting matches. One match point was scored from each game won.

March 2012: Shrewsbury win the Williams Cup

Six schools entered this competition which is for school teams of 6 players. The format is a round-robin where each school plays a two game match over 3 pairs against each of the other schools. Shrewsbury confirmed their current status as the leading Fives school at this level by beating all of the other schools, and only dropped one game in their 2nd pair match against St Olave's.

2011 Williams Cup: Show of strength from Shrewsbury

Six schools entered this National competition for three pair school teams at Eton on Sunday 6th March. Each pair from each school played five 2 game matches against their corresponding pairs from other schools. One point was awarded for each game won. It was very good to see a young team from Ipswich for the first time.
