Javier Aguirre (1911-c.1937)

Javier Aguirre was one of the youngest players ever to win the Kinnaird Cup at the age of just 19 in 1930 alongside fellow Old Cholmeleian Howard Fabian.

Aguirre had been part of a formidable all-Basque Highgate School first pair with ED Portu; they twice beat the current Kinnaird Cup winners in the 1928/29 season but went on to lose in the semi-finals of the Public Schools' Handicaps to eventual winners Harrow. The following year, Aguirre teamed up with Fabian to become the first non-Etonian or Harrovian pair to win the Kinnaird Cup.

Sadly Aguirre was killed only a few years later in the Spanish Civil War.
