Spreading Fives in Harrow

Graham Dunbar reports:

21/03/16: Amongst many partnerships with our local schools and the community, Harrow School has an introductory fives programme for Year 6 children from two primary schools: Roxeth Primary School and Vaughan Primary School.

120 children from these schools have experienced two 90-minute sessions in groups of 30. A group of Harrow boys, all volunteers, take responsibility for introducing the game, giving a brief history and then getting the children to hit the ball in groups of no more than 2 or 3. A number of games within the courts have been developed with both tennis balls and fives balls. The children and staff seem thoroughly to enjoy the activity and the 'thank you' letters from the children bear that out. One might add that the significant walk to the courts also helps to promote a healthy lifestyle. We look forward to working with these schools again next November and building on this project which is about to enter its fourth year. The next stage is to continue the programme into Whitmore High School, another of our partner schools and the main destination for children from both these primary schools.
