The 2013 Graham Turnbull Trophy took place at Eton on Sunday 17th November with 28 pairs from 8 different schools taking part. The standard was exceptionally high and the tournament produced some cracking matches.

The 2013 Jesters Universities tournament took place at Eton last weekend and featured 29 pairs representing 16 different universities, with first time appearances this year from Liverpool, Edinburgh, De Montfort and the University of East London.

2013 Black Cup: Highgate Girls Back in Black

The Richard Black has been going now for five years and is well established as one of the highlights of the Fives calendar, providing an EFA Trophy style competition for the ladies game, only with better prizes. This year’s edition almost had a record entry of 8 teams and even with the late withdrawals of Cambridge University and the Highgate second team, it was still a very healthy number of teams and players who made it to Eton on Remembrance Sunday to compete for the trophy.

November 2013: Cambridge Courts Officially Opened

Saturday Nov 9th marked a red letter day in the history of Eton Fives, as after the near 20 wait since the demolition of Portugal Place and after a huge fundraising effort, led by Richard Black, Rodney Knight and Dale Vargas, the three new courts in the state of the art Cambridge University sports centre were finally officially opened.

2013 Under 25s

A record entry of 29 pairs took part in the Under 25s tournament at Eton on Sunday, with an extremely high standard of Fives across the board. The men were competing for the newly presented John Rimer Cup, with last year's winners back but this time in opposition, Andrew Joyce playing with Berkhamsted teammate Jeremy O’Neill and Laurie Brock teaming up with former Cambridge partner Rob Desmond.

November 2013: New Home for the EFA Archives

Highgate have recently converted part of one of their former boarding houses into a brand new Archives Room and happily they have been able to take on the EFA Archives as well. Even better, they have also recently appointed a full-time professional archivist who is happy with the arrangements, as is the Head Master.

Autumn Fives Festival – Sunday 22nd September 2013 – Shrewsbury School

A beautiful sunny day witnessed the first competitive Fives for many of the players at this year’s Autumn Fives Festival. Held at Shrewsbury School by kind permission of the Headmaster, we were delighted to welcome 36 players from Rydal Penrhos, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton G.S. and Wrekin College. The players took part in one of four competitions, with the focus on participation and welcoming beginners to our wonderful game.

The 2013 edition of the Midlands Tournament took place at Repton over the weekend of November 2nd/3rd. Presided over as usual in their own inimitable style by Howard Wiseman and Dominique Redmond, this year’s tournament featured over 30 pairs and the excellent Saturday night dinner in a local hotel.
