Capital Gains: London win the 2012 Universities Mixed title

The Universities Mixed tournament at Highgate was a huge success yesterday with seven top quality pairs from London, Cambridge, Bath and Durham.

In two hotly contested semi-finals, Cambridge's Elli Hullis and Robert Wilson came through against London pair Karen Hird and Vinay Rao to face another London pair of Charlotta Cooley and Abhishek Bhattacharya in the final, who had beaten Cambridge pair Annabel Griffiths and Ed Winfield in the other semi final.

The final featured some great top court and back court rallies, but Cooley and Bhattacharya finally came through to win the tournament, and the rather magnificent tankard!

Semi-Finals

London 1 (C.Cooley & A.Bhattacharya) beat Cambridge 2 (A.Griffiths and E.Winfield) 2-0 (12-6 12-4)

Cambridge 1 (E.Hullis & R.Wilson) beat London 2 (K.Hird and V.Rao) 2-0 (12-7 12-9)

Final

London 1 beat Cambridge 1 2-0 (12-10 12-10)
