2005 Prep Schools' Tournament

Gerald Barber reports:

Once again our competition played at Eton this term was dominated by some excellent Highgate pairs. The last eight comprised of four Highgate pairs, two from Sunningdale and one each from Ludgrove and Orley Farm. It was good to see Sunningdale back to impressive form. They easily defeated Highgate 4 to reach the semi finals but then were out gunned by Highgate 2 (12-3, 12-6).

The other semi final was an all Highgate affair with Highgate 1 emerging the winners (14-10, 12-0). The final was of an exceptional standard with both pairs playing aggressively and yet making few blatant errors. Eventually after a marathon struggle the 2nd pair of Kovar and Most defeated Coshing and Hatchwell 2-1 (14-12, 11-14, 12-8). Many congratulations to all four boys for such a distinguished final.

In the Jeremy Marston Plate competition Sunningdale 3 narrowly defeated Summer Fields 1 (12-5, 8-12, 12-5) in the final. The standard and competitiveness of this competition was as keen as ever. A huge amount of fives was played during the day and it was heartening to see so many boys improving most noticeably as the tournament progressed. The sun shone and all the matches were played in an excellent spirit. Many thanks to Eton for hosting us. Next year 2006 will be at Harrow on Thursday 16th March.
