1999 Williams Cup

Mark Williams reports:

Four Schools entered the Competition again this year, which was held at Eton College, concurrently with the Barber Cup and EFA Trophy finals. Each School entered a team of three pairs, and each pair played a best-of-three game match against the equivalent pair from each of the other Schools. One point was awarded for each game won.

St Olave's produced their star players, but were well supported in depth, and eventually won the Competition by three points. A strong Shrewsbury side pushed them all the way however, and only narrowly lost the decisive match between them 4-3. Highgate gave Shrewsbury a run for their money, and defeated a depleted Eton team, but both lost heavily to St Olave's. As ever the competition was enjoyed by all, and provided a good opportunity for the School players to watch several of the leading adult players in competition, and vice versa.
